Full Moon Practice

A seasonal extended yoga practice

yin and restorative yoga

Throughout the year, the full moon marks a natural point of pause — a moment of completion before the cycle turns again. In the traditional calendar, it offers an opportunity to steady the mind, soften effort, and take stock of practice as it is, rather than as we imagine it should be.

Our Full Moon Practice is an extended evening session held on selected full moons throughout the year. It is not a ritual or celebration of the moon, but a period of deliberate practice: a way of working with rhythm, impermanence, and continuity through the lens of yoga.

About the Practice

Each Full Moon Practice offers a slower, more considered approach to practice. The emphasis is on returning to foundations — attention, breath, and steady effort — rather than striving or intensity.

Across the evening, we explore how practice evolves over time:

  • how effort and rest inform one another

  • how discipline is renewed, not forced

  • how attention can be clarified amidst change

The practice invites reflection on continuity: what we sustain, what we release, and how the teachings live beyond the mat.

Led by Kaz, whose warmth and insight have shaped TYF since its earliest days, and Julia, whose emerging teaching brings clarity and care, this practice offers a softer and more contemplative space within the rhythm of regular teaching — a thoughtful way to close the final cycle of the year.

What to Expect

  • Guided practice — a steady, cooling sequence accessible to all levels.

  • Study and reflection — short readings and discussion drawn from the Yoga Sūtras to frame the theme of renewal and restraint.

  • Brief periods of self-observation through writing as a tool for svādhyāya (self-study).

  • Seated meditation — closing practice to settle the attention.

  • Community tea — time to sit together informally at the end of the session.

For Whom

This session is open to all practitioners interested in the broader study of yoga beyond asana.
It will suit those who value slower, deliberate practice and who wish to integrate reflection and philosophical study into their approach.

No prior experience with the Yoga Sūtras is required — only a willingness to observe, reflect, and participate in steady practice.
