Beginner Yoga Course that will teach you Yoga

Our Beginners Yoga Course has been developed over 17 long years. Through observation we have ascertained that beginner yoga students need two crucial fundamentals:

1. Consistent yoga practice with increasing attendance.

2. Comprehensive instruction and an experienced yoga teacher.

The 4-week, twice-a-week Beginners Yoga Course readily prepares and equips students with everything they need to be informed and confident in their yoga practice. You will learn to practice safely and will develop a solid understanding of fundamentals.

The course is designed to build slowly from the ground up. Students are guided at all times and offered very skilful modifications if needed.

Once completed, students have all the competence and necessary information to attend open-level classes.

The course starts with the introduction to basic asana, fundamentals, and breath. The classes are very static as we explore different ways to understand alignment and the importance of structure and perceptual accuracy.

In the second half of the course, we begin by linking the static postures learned in the first half into a seamless thread of movement and breath synchronicity. We will structure a set sequence of fundamental asana.

This course is ideal if you have:

  • Never done yoga before

  • Tried yoga but felt unsure in class

  • Wanted a clearer foundation before attending regular drop-in classes

You’ll learn:

  • Foundational postures (asana)

  • Yogic Breathing and the importance of connection between breath and movement

  • How to modify the postures to suit your body

  • How to move with steadiness and confidence

Beginners Yoga FAQs — Sydney Beginners Yoga

  • No — this Beginner Yoga Course is designed for students new to yoga in Sydney’s Inner West — Annandale, Leichhardt, Stanmore, Lilyfield, Forest Lodge and surrounding suburbs. We will teach you everything you need to know to feel confident in your practice.

  • Absolutely! Even experienced yogis would benefit from attending our Beginner Yoga Course. It gives a detailed look into the breathing, the asana and other essential fundamentals. There is a lot to discover in yoga and every time one gets on the mat the practice is different.

  • You can enrol, but we always advise to try to attend all sessions to get the most benefit out of the course. If you miss a session, you can try approaching the teacher before class to give you a quick recap and if there is time, our teachers will do their best, but also be ready to work a little harder to catch up with the group.

  • We practice and teach 8 limb yoga. This is essentially what these days is called vinyasa yoga. But we stick to traditional practice and emphasise the importance of breathing and repetition.

  • We have a 200sqm space. That’s BIG! And we limit the course to 20-25 people. This leaves plenty of space between the mats, ensures personal space and room to move and breath. This is also a comfortable number for teachers and assistants to look after every student.

  • Yes — most students continue with our regular schedule at the end.
